Have a coffee in a Victorian bathroom at Attendant in London

We enjoyed great coffee and pastries all over London, including Fortitude Bakehouse, but one of our favorite stops was the Attendant Coffee Roaster location in Fitzrovia. Why was it on our radar? Because their Fitzrovia location is… underground in a Victorian toilet!

To find Attendant, look for the old iron structure in the middle of the street!

The underground operation is small but cozy, with a small kitchen as well as a few tables and counters.

They’ve retained some of the most…er…charming elements of Victorian toilets, including a new marble counter built through the old urinals, as well as white and green wall tiles, original floors, old water tanks water, etc.

Even though the space is obviously an old toilet, it doesn’t feel damp or gross. It’s just fun.

We lucked out with a very short wait for a corner table.

The attendant’s menu is small but simple: pastries, breakfast sandwiches, coffee, tea.

There’s avocado toast with smoked salmon and an egg.

A simple breakfast sandwich with bacon and eggs.

As you eat, there are plenty of fascinating details to take in.

The attendant is currently open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. They don’t take reservations, so be prepared to wait if it gets busy.

And although it is located in an old toilet… Attendant does not have its own facilities. They recommend using the pub next door.
