This past weekend, Mission Coffee Co. offered a sneak peek at their new roastery and cafe on the south side of Columbus. Mission merged with Blank Slate Coffee, which operated as a truckload in downtown Gahanna for seven years before closing and relocating.

With a few staff changes, Mission continues in its space, roasting coffee and serving brewed coffee and espresso drinks from the old Blank Slate truck parked out front. The two companies have a long-standing connection, as Blank Slate was Mission’s first wholesale account.

Although the space is still a little rough, it’s already a cozy place with tables, counters, sofas.

The cafe’s location is smart, as it’s next to The Fort, the location of City Winery which is due to open this summer, and the recently announced Steelton Village development. The neighborhood should continue to develop around Mission.

Mission is still roasting as well, so you can find their beans at the store and all over town.

Over the weekend, they offered a preview of the space to anyone who purchased a bag of their special 2060 blend. Building on their South High Street address, the blend features 20% Kenyan micro-lots , 60% natural Ethiopian products and 20% secret addition. “It’s magic,” they said.

Congratulations to the Mission team for setting up and running the store! I can’t wait to see how it grows from there.

They said they plan to offer a full grand opening next weekend, so look for more details on that.
